(I lost my Heart to a) Starship Trooper

et même The Door Into Summer par The Monkees! (?!).

Joe Cocker (“The Moon’s A Harsh Mistress”, 1974) ,
Glen Campbell (“By The Time I Get To Phoenix”, “Wichita Lineman”, “Galveston”, “Where’s The Playground, Susie”),
Art Garfunkel (“All I Know”, "Scissors Cut"), Linda Ronstadt (“Easy For You To Say”),
Michael Feinstein ("Time enough for Love", 1993), The Beach Boys...

Quote:
"The title is from a short story written by Robert A. Heinlein from an anthology called A Man Who Sold the Moon. And I liked the title and it stayed with me for years and years and years and years. It haunted me. And I finally wrote the song. I've hardly ever done that. That's a special case. Taking a title from someone else's work. But I'm very straightforward about it; that's what I did. But it was because it was so hauntingly beautiful."

Les paroles sont en tout cas évocatrices :

"The Moon’s A Harsh Mistress"

See her how she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold

Once the sun did shine
Lord, it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pines
And then the darkness fell
And the moon's a harsh mistress
It's so hard to love her well

I fell out of her eyes
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face
I tripped and I missed my star
I fell and I fell alone
The moon's a harsh mistress
The sky is made of stone

The moon's a harsh mistress
She's hard to call your own.

"The Door Into Summer"

On The Wheel [11-12-67] et Some Like It Lukewarm [04-03-68] (ci-dessous):

Les paroles :

With his fools gold stacked up all around him
From a killing in the market on the war
The children left king midas there, as they found him
In his counting house where nothing counts but more

Chorus:
And he thought he heard the echo of a penny whistle band
And the laughter from a distant caravan
And the brightly painted line of circus wagons in the sand
Fading through the door into summer

Well, its travel onto maybe next year s places
As a trade-in for a name upon the door
And he pays for every year he cannot buy back with his tears
As he finds out theres been no one keeping score

Chorus...

Là aussi, le rapport est lointain !

"Stranger In A Strange Land"
par Leon Russell and the Shelter People, en mai 1971.

En concert :

Les paroles (écrites par Leon Russell) :

How many days has it been
Since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways
That I can make you laugh
Or do I only know how to make you cry

When the baby looks around him, It's such a sight to see
He shares a simple secret, With the wise man

Chorus :
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

How many miles will it take
To see the sun
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by side when the morning comes

And the baby looks around him, And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king

- Chorus -

Well, I don't exactly know
What's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
Each other, not like brothers

Leaders take us far away from ecology
With mythology and astrology
Has got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other
It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race

Stop the money chase
Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in
And that's a thing

Do you recognize the bells of truth
When you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen
To the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children

- Chorus -

"Stranger In A Strange Land"
par Barbra Streisand.

Les paroles (écrites par Barry Gibb, Ashley Gibb & Stephen Gibb - les Bee Gees) :

You may be someone else's sweetheart
Fighting someone else's war
And if you suffer for the millions
Then it's what you're fighting for
Someone believe in only light of day
Someone strong enough to show the way
Someone everyone believes in
Someone who will stand by you

And I will be your heart and mind
My love is on the line
I know is how I'm gonna stay
For a stranger in a strange land
Far away
And love will make your spirit shine
I feel your hand in mine
I write a letter every single day
To a stranger in a strange land
Far away

May we share the most tomorrows
I will hear you when you cry
Should we let it come between us
Never knowing how we live or die
I will walk you though the pouring rain
I will help you learn to live and love again
Give 'em hell before you go to heaven
By send you home again

And I will be your heart and mind
My love is on the line
I know it's how I'm gonna stay
To a stranger in a strange land
Far away
And somewhere in the lonely night
Your flame is burning bright
I know it's how I'm gonna stay
To a stranger in a strange land
Far away
And just to see your spirit shine
To feel your hand in mine
I write a letter every single day
To a stranger in a strange land
Far away
Ooh...
